🥔🥩 Classic Shepherd’s Pie (Cottage Pie)

🧾 Ingredients:
For the filling:
- 1 lb ground lamb (or beef for Cottage Pie)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas (or mixed veggies)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
- ½ cup beef broth (plus more if needed)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the mashed potato topping:
- 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russets), peeled and chopped
- 4 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup milk or cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese for topping
